Middle Georgia Cold Cases: Checked Out

GORDON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s going three years since a 57-year-old man disappeared from a personal care home. It’s an all new Middle Georgia Cold Cases.

The city’s police chief says Cornelius Hall checked out from the home in August 2013 and never came back. Investigators spent days searching for the man, who’s a diabetic, and needed his medicine to survive.

“The medication that he was supposed to have been taking is a life and death situation. He’s got to have his medication,” Chief Mike Hall said.

Chief Hall says the personal care home handled Cornelius’ finances and took care of him.

“We have not had the first tip, the first lead, on him since he’s been missing,” Chief Hall said.

Representatives at Falcon Crest Manor say Cornelius signed out like any other person would. They couldn’t hold him. After a couple of hours they realized they hadn’t heard from him and that’s when they called police.

Shortly after, crews from FEMA and the GBI were called in to help look for Cornelius.

“We came out and as soon as we could we put people on four-wheelers. They ran quick routes of the known locations for the people who usually travel,” Chief Hall said.

Panic set in for Chief Hall because of Cornelius’ diabetic condition.

“Most folks, if they don’t have their shot, then they go into diabetic shock. It’s almost like a drunken state. They’ll just walk off, drive off wherever it is,” Chief Hall said.

A dangerous situation if left untreated. It’s the only cold case in Gordon.

“Most frustrating thing to me would be knowing that he has family members that cared a lot for him,” Chief Hall said.

He said he wants to get it solved as soon as possible.

They need to step out and say ‘I do know this person, I have seen this person, I know where he’s staying at.’ It’s real important that he’s found safe and returned back to his family,” Chief Hall said.

If you know what happened to Cornelius Hall, call the Gordon Police Department at (478) 628-2323.
