FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Visually impaired youth across Georgia received a spotlight on their abilities during the first Cane Quest event held in the state on October 27.

Hosted by the Braille Institute, the event brought together participants for a day of skill-building and community activities at Forsyth’s First Baptist Church.

Cane Quest, an orientation and mobility program, focuses on enhancing cane skills and travel techniques for the visually impaired. In Forsyth, the agenda also included pumpkin decorating, a cake walk and a parent workshop.

“It really makes me happy to see them walking out with smiles on their faces and to know that they’ve formed friendships,” event organizer Sarah Bussey said.

The 1835 Artisan Guild joined as a sponsor.

“We actually practiced our art activities blindfolded to kind of give us an idea of how it would feel,” director of the guild Denise Buff said.
