DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Dublin City School District is celebrating the announcement last week of its superintendent as the 2024 Georgia Superintendent of the Year.

Dr. Fred Williams has worked for the Dublin City School District for 30 years and has been superintendent since 2015.

He says earning the title of 2024 Georgia Superintendent of the Year is a reflection of support from the community and the hard work of everyone in the district.

“It feels really special to receive this honor, because what you understand is that it’s bigger than one person,” Dr. Williams said. “It goes back to all the stakeholders, our students, our staff, our parents and families in our community that lead in to such an honor as this.”

During Dr. Williams’ tenure, student enrollment in the district has increased by 5%. This year, the district also saw a 97.7% graduation rate.

He says high student achievement and success for all students is the number one goal of the District’s Strategic Plan.

“Our task is to take every child where they are and help them to exceed where the state says they should be, but also help each child achieve what they want for their life,” he said.

The plan works by focusing on the physical, social and emotional needs of every student to ensure they are capable of success.

Dr. Williams says he hopes the school district will continue to improve every day and that faculty and staff will be leaders in education and serve students both in and outside of the classroom.

“Our hope is to, again, just to help every kid being an effective communicator, a problem solver and a lifelong learner,” he said.

Dr. Williams is now eligible to be selected as National Superintendent of the Year during next year’s School Superintendents Association annual conference.

Also last week, the Dublin City School District was one of two districts in the state to receive the Georgia School Boards Association’s Leading Edge Award for Communications.
