MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Loosier Furniture Express, a Georgia staple for 85 years, announced Tuesday it is closing its doors and will start a total liquidation sale this week. The family-owned furniture store has operated in Macon for 58 years.

The company made the announcement in a news release. A staff member confirmed the closure by phone.

“At the heart of our business philosophy lies a commitment to delivering unparalleled customer satisfaction,” third-generation owner Grant Loosier said. “We have always made sure that our store is a place where people instantly feel at home, and we are so grateful for the way this community has supported us in return.”

The going-out-of-business sale begins on Thursday, November 30 at 1673 Eisenhower Parkway, next to Academy Sports. The company says the sale will feature significant discounts on well-known furniture brands and home accessories, including CrownMark, Albany, Southerland, HomeStretch, Southern Motion, Steve Silver and Tennessee Enterprise. Heirloom rugs and home accessories will also be available up to 70% off. Management suggests early shopping for the best selection.

The 25,000-square-foot showroom building is on the market. Interested buyers can contact Ryan Griffin at (478) 808-5733 or visit the company’s website for additional contact information.

Loosier Furniture Express’s journey began in 1938 when Oscar Loosier opened the first store in Barnesville. The business expanded under the Loosier family, with multiple locations throughout Georgia, including Albany, Gainesville, Thomaston and Tifton. Over the years, the other stores have closed.

Grant Loosier purchased ownership of the Macon location from his father in 1984 and moved the store from downtown to the current Eisenhower Parkway location in 2005.
