MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Macon-Bibb County, the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority and Visit Macon unveiled the name of the new Pickleball complex opening soon in the Macon Mall.

The complex will be known as the “Rhythm and Rally Sports & Events Center.” The idea is for the facility’s name to be instantly recognizable by Pickleball fans and tournament promoters.

“It’s something I think we can all be proud of,” Mayor Lester Miller said. “We needed a name and a brand that stands out and it says, “Macon, Georgia”, that would recognize our musical heritage and our growing strength in sports, including Pickleball.”

Macon-Bibb and Visit Macon have chosen Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) to help manage and oversee the new complex. SFC spearheaded the creation process for the new name and logo with its extensive history of helping run and manage sports complexes across the nation.

The new General Manager for Rhythm and Rally will be John Roberts, a Maconite and Pickleball fan. Roberts says he has been playing the sport for five years now and is more than thrilled to be able to help oversee the new complex on behalf of SFC.

“When the city acquired this space over two years ago, this was announced as one of Mayor Miller’s priorities, and to see it come to fruition and being this close to an opening date and being able to see it full of Pickleball players, hopefully 128 at a time on 32 courts, the world’s largest indoor is, quite literally a dream come true,” Roberts said.

Macon-Bibb officials say the facility is set to open to the public sometime in December. County leaders announced last week the first tournament will be held there December 16-17.
