MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A beloved Macon marching band director was honored on Thursday with a street dedication in front of Ballard Hudson Middle School.

Robert L. Scott, Jr. served as the director of the Maroon and White Marching Tiger Band at Ballard Hudson High School from 1956 until the school’s closing in 1970.

In 1984, he was named as the Macon Telegraph’s first-ever “Teacher of the Year.” He also taught music and social studies at several Bibb County schools until he retired in 1987.

Scott was known for the impact he had on musicians and performers from the Middle Georgia. His daughter, Jeralyn Scott-Smith, says the new street signs will keep her father’s legacy alive for future generations.

“I think it’s a good thing for Macon and history,” she said. “We’re losing so much of our history that I think it’s going to be great for kids and for our family.”

Robert L. Scott, Jr. Way is located on the portion of Anthony Road from Pio Nono Avenue to Felton Avenue.
