MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – For 20 years, the Macon Volunteer Clinic has provided free medical services to low income residents of Macon-Bibb and Twiggs counties. Now, the clinic is setting its sights on moving to a new location.

The Macon Volunteer Clinic has been at its current location on Rogers Avenue since 2003. Over the years, the clinic has outgrown its space, and there has been a growing need for updated resources.

That’s why Executive Director Nancy White says the clinic’s Board of Directors is planning on expanding its services to a new, larger location.

“As you can imagine, in 20 years we have additional services, we have more patients, and the functionality simply does not meet today’s needs,” White said.

White says plans to relocate the clinic have been in the works since 2019, but as a non-profit, the clinic will need an estimated $1.5 million up front to make the relocation possible.

Now, the process is moving forward thanks to help from Macon-Bibb County government and community partners.

“We are just thrilled to have this county funding to be able to move forward in the months ahead on a more suitable location to better serve this community,” White said.

Earlier this week, the Macon-Bibb Board of Commissioners approved up to half a million dollars in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to help the Macon Volunteer Clinic reach its goal.

With this boost in funding, the nonprofit is taking the next steps toward a definitive plan to relocate.

White says the Board of Directors is pursuing a location in downtown Macon with greater ease of access to low-income patients.

“It’s really going to be a win-win for the entire community in terms of location, functionality and a place where we can really serve the patients that we’re here to serve,” she said.

Recently, the Macon Volunteer Clinic raised nearly $17,000 for a new eye clinic as part of its Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign.

White says the clinic will announce more plans for relocation within the next few weeks.
