MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Speed cameras have been added at more Bibb County schools and will be activated soon.

Cameras have been added to Carter Elementary, Hartley Elementary, Heard Elementary, Springdale Elementary, First Presbyterian Day School and Windsor Academy, and will be activated on January 4. Warnings will be given during the first month of activation, with tickets being issued beginning February 5.

The cameras enforce the speed limit on school days when classes are in session from one hour before the start of school until one hour after dismissal.

Tickets are issued when a vehicle travels more than 10 miles per hour of the posted speed limit within a school zone. The first citation will be $100, and each citation after will be $150.

The tickets will not show up on a person’s driving record, or be used for “points” with your insurance. All tickets are reviewed by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to ensure its compliance with Macon-Bibb’s Code.
