FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Current Forsyth Mayor Eric Wilson and former Forsyth Mayor John Howard II are both back on the ballot this election cycle.

Voters have an opportunity to give Wilson another term as mayor or put Howard back in the seat he was elected to in 2011.

Howard made the decision to run against Wilson after being unseated by the current mayor in 2015. The former mayor and current councilman says it’s his time.

“It’s been eight years since I’ve been removed from the mayor’s seat, but I feel like it’s time for me to come back again,” Howard said, before adding he lost the 2015 election by just 52 votes.

Both campaigns are heavily focused on voter turnout and early voting numbers. Howard says early voting numbers have doubled since 2015 and he hopes that means good news for him. Wilson says the city’s future is in the hands of voters.

“At this point you have to let the voters do their job,” Wilson said.

Polling locations in Forsyth closed at 7 p.m.
