TECH BYTE: Apps to Help You Garden

(41NBC/WMGT) — It’s finally feeling like spring, so it’s time to take up gardening again but not everyone has a green thumb, but it is possible to keep your plant or plants alive and well. Let’s look at how tech is making gardening a little easier.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to add a little more green to your home or garden. If you’ve ever wanted to become a plant parent, some smartphone apps are helping to make those dreams a reality. Sometimes the biggest hurdle you have is just remembering things. That’s what the Planta app is for. It makes a care schedule for you, and sets reminders. Never forget to water your plants again! Planta can even scan a plant, and identify it. This feature is definitely helpful if you spot one you like at the store, to see if it’s feasible to take care of. The app also has a light meter, so you can find the best spot possible to keep your plant in your home.

Blossom is another beneficial plant parenting app. It can also set reminders, and accurately identify your plant. Part of that entails spotting if your plant is sick. All you have to do is take a picture for a diagnosis. Blossom will tell you which type of potential illnesses you can eliminate, and give you a treatment plan if it really is sick.

From Seed to Spoon Gardening is a good app to have on hand for growing fruits, veggies, and herbs as it includes growing guides for more than 100 different types. You can filter plants based on their health benefits. And if you’re forgetful, this app will also help you with setting reminders, and making sure you’re planting at the right time. Yes, timing is everything.

Plants obviously have a lot of benefits, including growing healthy food, or serving as special gifts. It just takes a little research to find the right one for you. At least now your phone can make that happen.
