TECH BYTE: Apple out with new outdoors watch

(41NBC/WMGT) — Apple isn’t just coming out with new iPhones. Let’s check out one of the tech company’s new and improved watches.

Apple is touting its new Apple Watch Ultra, which it calls its most rugged and capable Apple Watch ever. If you’re athletic, or into the outdoors, this watch is for you. Apple says it’s meant to take on extreme environments, elevations, and temperatures. It has more water resistance compared to other Apple Watches. You can even go scuba diving with it! And like the newest iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, the Apple Watch Ultra also has new safety features, like Crash Detection if you’re in a severe car crash, and Emergency SOS via satellite to message emergency services if you don’t have cell coverage or Wi-Fi. An additional watch safety feature not on the iPhone is Fall Detection. If it detects you’ve fallen, and you’re unresponsive, your watch will automatically call 911.

If that’s not enough, the Watch Ultra even has a siren to attract attention, which can be heard up to 600 feet away. As for battery life, you shouldn’t have to worry about the Ultra dying on your big hiking trip. It can last for up to 36 hours of normal use, and up to 60 hours on low power settings. With all of these new features, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Apple Watch Ultra is the most expensive of the new Apple Watches. It’ll cost you about $800 before trade-in.

And if you’re in the market for new headphones, Apple has also upgraded its AirPods Pro. These second-generation earbuds have improved sound quality, noise cancellation, and battery life.
