Living Well with Troy Thompson: Dry needling to restore tissue

(41NBC/WMGT) — Troy Thompson sits down with Dr. Justine Richmond to talk about a commonly used technique by physical therapists — Dry Needling.

Dr. Richmond explains what dry needling is and what it aims to do. Dry needling is a practice in which very thin needles stick into the skin and top layer of tissue to try and relax muscles and sore spots. Richmond also explains that there is a difference between dry needling and acupuncture; acupuncture is based on the traditional Chinese understanding of different points on the body to help center the body’s energy, while dry needling is western in origin and is focused on the musculoskeletal system of our bodies.

Dr. Richmond assures that dry needling is perfectly safe and healthy to do and that you shouldn’t be worried about getting it.
