Living Well with Troy Thompson: Promoting Hair Growth with Platelet Rich Plasma

(41NBC/WMGT) — Today Troy Thompson and resident dermatologist Dr. Elise Barnett discuss how Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be used to promote hair growth.

PRP is created from blood plasma, from when you go to your local Dermatologist and they draw your blood. Once drawn, the blood is spun down until a golden looking liquid is left which is the PRP. It can be used for a few different things but most often it is used to promote hair growth.

How it works is that the PRP is injected into the hair follicles and that helps stimulate new growth as well as stimulate thickness of the hair shaft. It’s used for promoting hair growth in general not exclusively for baldness, PRP can also be used to help stimulate collagen under the eyes which improves dark surfaces very quickly and it’s thankfully not very painful.
