Hooked on Science: Corn Sweat

(41NBC/WMGT) — This week Science Guy Jason Lindsey takes Hooked on Science out to the field…a corn field that is!

He’s out in Iowa in the middle of a field where farmers grow a whole bunch of corn. Corn sweats like we do, and when they sweat it comes from the leaves. The water stays on the leaves and then evaporates like sweat on our skin, one acre of corn will lose four thousand gallons of water within a day! So where does all that water vapor go? It hangs around of course!

The water vapor hangs around and makes the entire area feel sticky and when it’s hot out it makes things feel even hotter so if you’ve ever wondered why it feels so humid in a corn field, now you know!
