CORDELE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — NASCAR Cup Series driver Ross Chastain is set to compete in the upcoming Protect Your Melon – Buckle Up SpeedFest 2024. The event, scheduled for January 19 and 20 with a rain date of January 21, will once again be held at Crisp Motorsports Park’s Watermelon Capital Speedway.

This year’s SpeedFest, marking its third consecutive year under Track Enterprises’ promotion, is in collaboration with the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The partnership reinforces the office’s message to always buckle up, a crucial aspect of the Protect Your Melon program initiated by Chastain. The eighth-generation Georgia watermelon farmer is using his racing platform and agricultural background to support highway safety.

SpeedFest 2024 will feature a variety of races, including a 150-lap Super Late Model event co-sanctioned by the ASA/CRA Super Series powered by JEGS and the ASA Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco. Other races include a 100-lap Pro Late Model event, a 25-lap feature for Legend Cars and competitions for modifieds and bandoleros.

The event, which began in 2005, has been held at Cordele’s Watermelon Capital Speedway since 2012. Over the years, it has attracted notable motorsports names like Kyle Busch and Georgia natives Chase Elliott and David Ragan.

Track Enterprises says details on event sponsorship, ticket sales, and competitor entries will be announced in the coming weeks. Additional information can be found at www.crispmotorsportspark.com and www.cra-racing.com.
