MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Chance Jones is out as Stratford Academy’s head football coach after two seasons.

The news was first reported this week by the Central Georgia Sports Report, which cited an email school officials sent to parents.

Head of School Dr. Rachel Adams and Athletic Director Barry Veal confirmed the move in a statement sent to 41NBC.

“We wish Coach Jones well in all his future endeavors and thank him for all he has done for our students over the last three years,” the statement read.

Jones was a Stratford assistant under former head coach Mark Farriba before taking over the program in 2022 following Farriba’s departure.

He went 14-10 in two seasons as head coach, including an appearance in the GIAA Class AAAA state championship game in his first season.

His 2023 team went 5-6, falling to Strong Rock Christian in a first round playoff game.

Jones served as head coach at Macon’s Tattnall Square Academy from 2016-2019. Three of his four teams there made the playoffs, including a GHSA Class A Private semifinal run in his first season.

Jones, a Westfield School and University of Georgia graduate, started his coaching career working under Farriba as an assistant at Prince Avenue Christian School.

His overall head coaching record stands at 44-25.

Here’s the full statement from Adams and Veal:

“In an email to parents on Tuesday, Stratford Academy announced that Coach Chance Jones will not return as the school’s head football coach next year. In his three years with the program, two as head coach, Coach Jones built a strong rapport with his players and coaches. Under his leadership, the Eagles battled their way to the 2022 State Championship. In 2023, he and the football staff coached a young and developing team eager to make their own marks on the school’s athletic records. We wish Coach Jones well in all his future endeavors and thank him for all he has done for our students over the last three years.”
