MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Visitors to downtown Macon can come out to a pedestrian-friendly First Friday street party as part of the Bike Walk Macon Play Streets initiative.

A portion of Cherry Street and Second Street will be closed to traffic between 6 and 9 p.m. on Friday, November 3 for the street party. The event will feature food, vendors, games, artwork and a DJ.

According to the Vice President of External Affairs for NewTown Macon, Emily Hopkins, NewTown Macon partnered with Bike Walk Macon to showcase how pedestrian friendly city streets can be used to build community.

“Play Streets is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors,” she said. “When we turn our streets into a space where everybody can come out and connect and have fun and play, it creates this great sense of community that is really what play streets is all about.”

Hopkins says the street party was made possible by the Downtown Challenge Grant of the Community Foundation of Central Georgia through the Knight Foundation and Peyton Anderson Foundation.

The event is open to the public. You can find the full list of activities by visiting Bike Walk Macon’s Facebook page.
