MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students at select Bibb County schools can now enjoy the beauty of trees courtesy of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful and Cox Communications.

Forty native trees were planted at Ingram-Pye, Martin Luther King Jr. and Veterans Elementary school playgrounds to provide shade in years to come.

The trees were made possible by a $10,000 grant provided by Cox Communications through its Cox Conserves sustainability program.

According to Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Executive Director Asha Ellen, the tree planting is part of the non-profit’s goal of improving quality of life in the community.

“The trees will definitely benefit the students as they play on the playground as a source of shade, but also too, all the other benefits that trees bring,” Ellen said. “So as our students grow and flourish over the years, these trees will also grow and flourish with them.”

Ellen says Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful will also partner with Bibb County schools to educate students about the importance of planting trees.
