MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Professors from Georgia Tech’s Institute for Electronics and Nanotechnology paid a visit to Northeast High School in Macon Monday to give students a hand-on demonstration in nanotechnology.

Students learned about nanotechnology by reinforcing laminate paper with a thin film of acetone, the same way silicon chips are reinforced with metals. The workshop was hosted by Northeast High School science teacher Dr. Suneetha Panda, who was selected to participate in a nanotechnology research program at Georgia Tech.

She says she wanted to show students the different fields and careers where nanotechnology is used.

“They had an experience where they thought like, ‘Wow, nanotechnology is in everything from your toothpaste to your skin products to your everyday day to day life what we use,’” Dr. Panda said.

Dr. Panda says she hopes the workshop inspires students to study nanotechnology in college and pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
