MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Whether you’re a student or small business owner in Macon-Bibb County, AT&T is working toward improving your internet connectivity by expanding its fiber internet services.

The internet service provider is expanding to 20,000 fiber locations for schools, businesses and residents. Fiber allows for faster internet speeds, which the company says will strengthen communications.

According to the regional manager of external affairs for AT&T, Stan Shepherd, the company has worked with the Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority to bring new business into the county.

“Any time that they’re looking for industry coming in, one of the top questions that I ask is, ‘Do you have fiber availability at the location I’m looking at?'” Shepherd explained. “So not only does it help the businesses. That help also helps with economic development trends.”

Shepherd says AT&T plans to expand to 30 million locations across Georgia in the coming years, including more locations in Macon.
