Discover Middle Georgia: Dickey Farms

MUSELLA, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia is home to some of the best peach farms across the state. In a small town called Musella, you’ll find Dickey Farms, which has been a staple of the community since the 1800’s.

Lee Dickey is the Co-Owner of Dickey Farms. His great-great-grandfather first planted the peaches in Musella in 1887 and says they’ve “continuously farmed this same area and been growing peaches here for over 120 years now.”

Dickey Farms is a family owned business that takes pride in growing 20 different varieties of Georgia peaches and producing a vast array of products – from cider and syrup to dressings and sauces – plus a lot more!

It’s a classic southern farm that provides that feeling of home, even if you’re nowhere near home.

“I want to talk to everybody that comes through here. Some days are busy and you can’t always do that, but we really want to have a personal touch and personal welcome when people come out here,” said Dickey.

The farm has a newly installed playground for children to enjoy, a shaded pavilion for picnics, rocking chairs for relaxing and programs for field trips.

Haley Dumpe was visiting the farm with her two children on a school field trip. She enjoyed the scenic environment and the staff that “just makes it so fun for the kids and family.”

The peaches are farmed on over 1,000 acres of land in three counties – Monroe, Crawford and of course, Peach County. In total, Dickey Farms has over 100,000 peach trees.

Visitors also have a great view of Georgia’s oldest continuously operating peach packhouse at Dickey Farms, visible from the retail floor. During peach season, you can watch the peaches come in from the field. Then, they are packed and ready to ship.

While Dickey Farms is known for its Georgia Peaches, this year it’s trying something new…

“Strawberry season is new for us this year,” said Dickey. “We’ve been really excited about it. We’ve got a you-pick patch, we have strawberries available in our market.”

Strawberry season runs from late March to early June. Peach season begins in mid-May (they’re fresh in the market today) and lasts through late August.
