Discover Middle Georgia: Stubbs Park

DUBLIN, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – A local park in downtown Dublin has been at the center of family gatherings and city hosted events. Its natural surrounding has drawn out people of all ages and brought the community together during trying times.

Stubbs Park is located in the heart of Dublin, Georgia and has been in the hearts of its residents who’ve made memories there over the years.

Miriam Ponton, Assistant Director at Visit Dublin GA, says the park is so special because generations of families go out to the park. Ponton adds that she even brings her daughter out to the park to play now.

What may seem like just another park, is actually a historic location built back in 1909.

Stubbs Park was designed by a famous horticulturist, Prosper Julius Beerckmans. Beerckmans was from Augusta and is most well known for his gardens that became the Augusta National Golf Club.

Stubbs Park originally had a lake, fountains and one of Georgia’s first desegregated public swimming pools.

Today, it features picnic pavilions, playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a beautiful creek with many bridges and a skate park.

The park’s amphitheater is utilized for several big events hosted by the city including this weekend’s DubJam concert series.

On August 10-12, 13 artists will take the stage at Stubbs Park for the third annual DubJam.

Ponton says “all the artists are Georgia musicians [that] are currently in Georgia performing all across the state or originally from Dublin.”

This is the first year that DubJam will be held on three days and cover every genre of music.

DubJam 2018 will also feature artistic displays. Kids can participate in several different art crafts while the concert is ongoing and all visitors are welcome to view an Atlanta based artist, Corey Barksdale, paint a bench. Barksdale is known in the community for putting his creative touch on the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument Park in Dublin.

This weekend’s DubJam concert is free and open to the public.

Whether you’re in the park for a big event or just spending the day with family, Stubbs Park will provide you with a serene setting for memories to last a lifetime.
